Question: Discuss the ways in which the candidates’(this is you) own experiences of media consumption (how you use, access, and produce) illustrate wider patterns and trends in audience behavior.
When it comes to film, an audience is imperative to the success of the film. Personally, before I watch a film, I go to IMDb (International Movie Database) and check the critic’s reviews for that certain film, just to get an idea if I would like it or not. And, because IMDb is available to the entire public, it would be helpful for the film to have good ratings, so more people would want to watch it. Also, an efficient part of IMDb is how they tell you how you can access the film or TV show, which would allow more people to watch it if they know where they can find it. I have found it so much easier to watch good films and shows this way and I believe that if more people knew about it, more movies would have a bigger audience.

Question: What significance does the continuing development of digital media technology have for media institutions and audiences?
As technology advances, the easier it will be to access digital media, like movies and video games. Other forms of digital media, for example, social media apps, like Snapchat and Instagram can help share information on a global scale as to how to easily access movies and video games, and other forms of digital media. Nowadays, most of the population that have access to a mobile device will also have access to social media. This, in turn, makes it essential that media institutions take advantage of the number of people on these apps. For example, Disney Plus has its own Instagram account, as well as 10 to 15 other accounts for Disney Plus in other countries. This is good for marketing because millions of people see their accounts every day and because of the marketing for their new Marvel show “WandaVision” and the Star Wars show “The Mandalorian”, as of November 2020, they have an estimated 30-million and growing U.S. subscribers. This number, as well as other streaming services numbers, will continue to grow as long as digital media technology continues to grow. Question: How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
Creating my magazine spread was the easiest to make online with Canva, as well as the cover. When I was trying out different programs, like InDesign and Photopea, I was able to find out exactly how I wanted to format my spread and the cover. Also, when coming up with content, I had to research a lot about new attractions coming soon, as well as projects that are being talked about, so Disney Blogs and Youtube videos on the D23 convention, a convention where Disney releases new projects, was useful and included in my project. Overall, most of my project is made on my computer and I have found so many resources, like Canva and InDesign to integrate into my project. Question: How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Throughout the time I have been working on this project, I have improved my creative skills. For example, looking through different layouts and fonts, I have been able to find different items that would help my magazine be marketable. My knowledge of different programs, like Indesign, has improved and I am getting the hang of using different programs. Also, through research, I have found out ways I can see eye-to-eye with consumers and market my product in a way that is attractive to the readers. Questions: How does your product engage with audiences? How does your product be distributed as a real media text?
My product engages with audiences by appealing to their love of Disney. My magazine allows readers to stay on top of new events regarding Disney. Specifically, my magazine deals with Disney during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also gives an update on what's new outside of the parks, like what's new on Disney +. My product could be distributed physically and digitally. Digitally, I could make a blog and market my product through social media and other sites. Physically, I could find a publisher who is willing to internationally distribute it to newsstands and other places where magazines are sold. Questions: How does your product use or challenge conventions? ow does your product represent social groups or issues?
My magazine shows how a large corporation is adapting to changes during a global pandemic, specifically Disney. Disney means a lot to so many people and a lot of people want to know what is happening at the "Happiest Place on Earth." Through spreading out the ride queue to allowing only 35% capacity in their parks, Walt Disney World is challenging conventions when it comes to amusement parks and efficiency and safety during a global pandemic. The issue at hand is the COVID-19 pandemic. And although some people may not make it to the Disney parks, there is always Disney + available for those wanting to go, but unfortunately, cannot. My magazine could give people insight, whether they are Disney fanatics or are planning on traveling to the parks, on what is happening inside and outside the parks. |
